Arthur<\/a> and his presidency.\u00a0 To me, he is the epitome of a man who rose from corrupt beginnings to grow into decency when thrust into the office.\u00a0\u00a0 <em>The Unexpected President<\/em> is Scott Greenberger&#8217;s biography of Arthur.<\/p>\n<p>Greenberger tells the story in a solid, scholarly, readable way.\u00a0 He describes the man and the times clearly and gives the reader the space to draw their own conclusions.\u00a0 Or paint one&#8217;s own picture, I assume.<\/p>\n<p>Recommended.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I admit an unhealthy affinity for Chester A.
