{"id":2240,"date":"2016-09-30T10:21:46","date_gmt":"2016-09-30T18:21:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lunabase.org\/~faber\/blog\/?p=2240"},"modified":"2016-09-30T10:29:20","modified_gmt":"2016-09-30T18:29:20","slug":"review-three-squares","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lunabase.org\/~faber\/blog\/?p=2240","title":{"rendered":"Review: Three Squares"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are a lot of cool books that don&#8217;t change your life.\u00a0 Because I have a huge ego, I imagine that authors find and cherish my reviews.\u00a0 I always feel a little bad about reviewing a cool book that didn&#8217;t amaze me, because I think that the author would feel damned by faint praise.<\/p>\n<p>Abigail Carroll has done a fine job with <em>Three Squares<\/em>.\u00a0 It&#8217;s absolutely a cool book.<\/p>\n<p>Her topic is the history of American eating habits from the 1600&#8217;s to today.\u00a0 Those habits have been formed by and reflect the whole of the evolution of American culture and technology.\u00a0 Seeing all that reflected in a taco truck on every corner is remarkable and fun.<\/p>\n<p>Carroll does a great job of stepping back and letting all that shine through.\u00a0 There aren&#8217;t any breathtaking insights or jaw-dropping expressions, but I learned a lot.<\/p>\n<p>Recommended.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are a lot of cool books that don&#8217;t change your life.\u00a0 Because I have a huge ego, I imagine that authors find and cherish my reviews.\u00a0 I always feel a little bad about reviewing a cool book that didn&#8217;t amaze me, because I think that the author would feel damned by faint praise.
