{"id":2094,"date":"2015-09-23T21:14:58","date_gmt":"2015-09-24T05:14:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lunabase.org\/~faber\/blog\/?p=2094"},"modified":"2015-09-23T21:14:58","modified_gmt":"2015-09-24T05:14:58","slug":"review-tales-from-the-pittsburgh-steeler-sidelines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lunabase.org\/~faber\/blog\/?p=2094","title":{"rendered":"Review: Tales from The Pittsburgh Steeler Sidelines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dale Gronic&#8217;s <em>Tales<\/em> is misnamed.\u00a0 There are some stories in here, but by and large they aren&#8217;t fascinating anecdotes.\u00a0 Largely <em>Tales<\/em> is a fairly ad hoc study of the Steelers&#8217; draft classes.\u00a0 I will say that the Steelers&#8217; draft history turns out to be pretty checkered &#8211; much more so than I realized &#8211; but this treatment doesn&#8217;t capture things very well.<\/p>\n<p>From Gronic&#8217;s research, it does seem clear that a book about the Steelers&#8217; drafts would be interesting.\u00a0 The various coaches have had widely varying philosophies on the role of the draft in team building.\u00a0 When coaches are changing every few years, this can lead to extremely unusual personnel. Furthermore, each coaching staff brought different skills to the draft.
