{"id":1710,"date":"2013-05-25T17:01:26","date_gmt":"2013-05-26T01:01:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lunabase.org\/~faber\/blog\/?p=1710"},"modified":"2013-05-25T17:01:26","modified_gmt":"2013-05-26T01:01:26","slug":"review-lets-explore-diabetes-with-owls","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lunabase.org\/~faber\/blog\/?p=1710","title":{"rendered":"Review: Let&#8217;s Explore Diabetes With Owls"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>David Sedaris doesn&#8217;t change much.\u00a0 That&#8217;s to be expected from a man who has written compellingly about his OCD, but it leaves a reviewer in a difficult place.<\/p>\n<p>Owls marks his return to the short personal essay after\u00a0 <em>Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk<\/em>&#8216;s side trip into fable.\u00a0 I liked <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lunabase.org\/~faber\/blog\/?p=997\"><em>Chipmunk<\/em><\/a>, but I&#8217;m not sure it was as well received as his essays.\u00a0 It&#8217;s unfair to start by saying that the man doesn&#8217;t change when stepping slightly outside his comfort zone gets him zapped.\u00a0 Still, if you picked up any of his other works, the content and format of <em>Owls<\/em> is no surprise.<\/p>\n<p>I quite enjoyed <em>Owls<\/em>. Sedaris writes charmingly about himself, his quirky world, and our quirky world.\u00a0 Spending a few hours in his literary company is entertaining and rewarding.\u00a0 <em>Owls<\/em> is written by Sedaris the established writer, and it is a little sad that it is not as thrilling and unexpected as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lunabase.org\/~faber\/BBC\/mouldering99.html#m99-aa\"><em>Naked, <\/em><\/a>but it is every bit as enjoyable.<\/p>\n<p>This is good fun if you like Sedaris&#8217;s writing.\u00a0 If you have disliked his work in the past, this isn&#8217;t going to win you over.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>David Sedaris doesn&#8217;t change much.\u00a0 That&#8217;s to be expected from a man who has written compellingly about his OCD, but it leaves a reviewer in a difficult place.
