{"id":166,"date":"2007-07-01T19:27:39","date_gmt":"2007-07-02T03:27:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.lunabase.org\/~faber\/blog\/?p=166"},"modified":"2007-07-01T19:27:39","modified_gmt":"2007-07-02T03:27:39","slug":"going-in-the-longbox-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.lunabase.org\/~faber\/blog\/?p=166","title":{"rendered":"Going in the Longbox"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>Moon Knight #11\n<ul>\n<li>Man, I need to drop this.\u00c2\u00a0 This time little happened with jarring out of order storytelling.\u00c2\u00a0 One more issue, I promise.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Will Eisner&#8217;s The Spirit #7\n<ul>\n<li>Filler issue where a few other comics artists take a swing at the new Spirit.\u00c2\u00a0 The Simonson Sprouse &amp; Story and the Palmiotti stories are OK, but nothing too special.\u00c2\u00a0 I didn&#8217;t enjoy the Baker story at all &#8211; which is very rare for me.\u00c2\u00a0 This issue really showcases how hard it is to write a Spirit story.\u00c2\u00a0 These folks are all great comics creators, and working in the 8-page boundaries and other conventions of a Spirit story none of them nail it.\u00c2\u00a0 There&#8217;s nothing awful here, but nothing brilliant, either.\u00c2\u00a0 I&#8217;d skip it unless you&#8217;re a completist.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Jonah Hex #20\n<ul>\n<li>Hex continues to be solid.\u00c2\u00a0 Nothing jaw-dropping, but a\u00c2\u00a0 solid run with an interesting anti-hero.\u00c2\u00a0 Consistently decent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Captain America #27\n<ul>\n<li>The pot continues to stir.\u00c2\u00a0 We check in with all the major players and things move.\u00c2\u00a0 I don&#8217;t quite buy the Winter Soldier&#8217;s motivation, but if you believe he&#8217;d want to do this, it&#8217;s nice to watch him work.\u00c2\u00a0 Great superhero stuff, even in the constraints of the big doings at Marvel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Black Summer #0\n<ul>\n<li>If you know what Warren Ellis and Juan Jose Ryp are up to this summer, you don&#8217;t need to see this.\u00c2\u00a0 If you&#8217;re not, this lets you see the set up and a few pages of sample art for a buck.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s worth that to read Warren ranting in the back.\u00c2\u00a0 Worth a buck, easy.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Moon Knight #11 Man, I need to drop this.\u00c2\u00a0 This time little happened with jarring out of order storytelling.\u00c2\u00a0 One more issue, I promise.
